Description
Introduction to visible mending with swiss darning:
Sunday 16th March
2-5pm
slow stitch club teaches the art of visible mending using simple and traditional sewing
techniques to repair clothing in a creative, visible and intentional way.
In this 3 hour workshop we will look at how to use Swiss darning as a method of clothing
decoration and repair. Swiss darning can be used both to cover stains and repair holes in
knitted garments and we will cover the equipment you need to start swiss darning and also look at tips and tricks to help along the way. I’ll run through Swiss darning techniques such as the pin method and also talk about how to prepare your fabric for mending and weave in the ends once you’ve finished. I will provide sample knit fabrics for us to work on, but please feel free to bring along a knitted garment that you’d like to try repairing. Thick chunky knits are best for this technique where you can clearly see the knit stitches. This workshop is suitable for intermediate sewers and knitters and works well as a follow on from my original introduction to darning workshop.
All materials are provided: just bring your own item of clothing to mend or decorate. I willhave a selection of yarns and colours but if you think you’ll need a very specific yarn or colour match then please bring this with you.
⚠ It is recommended that you bring an item that has a small area to repair to start with or
something that you are happy to practise on ⚠
Look forward to meeting you all
