Say Hello to Pattern Cutting and Sewing tutor Justine

We are super excited to have found Justine to join our team here at Millie Moon.
Justine has been running some fantastic new workshops with us, specifically in pattern cutting but more sewing workshops coming soon!
Hello Everyone,
Born in Paris, I am a trained costume maker and experienced seamstress with a passion for pattern cutting, tailoring and hand embroidery. I have a curiosity for everything related to fabric & textile.
I previously worked for prestigious fashion houses in Paris, during the ‘ready to wear’ and Haute Couture fashion weeks while also working for a streetwear brand and some emerging theatre companies.
I came to England seven years ago to be a junior embroiderer for a haute couture fashion house based in London.
I now find myself in Somerset with the desire to teach everything I have learnt along the way. I see how more and more people are inclined to make their own clothes, and how this feeds into a sustainable approach to fashion that also align with certain political outlooks  – something I am completely on board with.
I believe that we cherish and appreciate a garment that we have made much more, because time and effort have been put into it – it encourages originality over conformity and quality over quantity. Clothes are also always more comfortable when tailored to our unique body type.
I started tutoring at Millie Moon in June 2024 and I have instantly loved the community that Rachel and Becki have created around sewing and the shop. Randomly, I seem to be teaching pattern cutting more than sewing but I love pattern cutting, and it’s a great way to help people make clothes that fits really well.
Hope you meet you on a workshop soon,
Justine xx

Book February and March workshops now!

Hello everyone,

What a long month January really is?

Is everyone ready for February and coming out of hibernation?

The workshop listing for February and March is now available. They are all on our website so you can book online or pop into the shop.

February sees the return of the “Beginners Patchwork and Quilt” workshop with Becki and Anna’s  “make a skirt in a day without a paper Pattern”. Anna is also doing the popular ‘make a pattern from a preloved garment’ workshop and we have a NEW Embroidery workshop with Kelly.

Moving into March, and Anna is back with her garment making classes:- The ‘Merchant and Mills garment in a day’ and the  6 week evening class. Becki will be teaching ‘introduction to machine sewing’ for all the beginners out there, and we have a NEW workshop  from Skye @slowstitchclub. A great new ‘next level’ Swiss darning workshop. For those that have done the ‘intro to darning’ and loved it, you maybe feel ready for the next challenge? Finally, Justine is back with a NEW workshop – drafting a pattern for a blouse with sleeves.

Hmmm…. Ok ok throwing off the duvet… I may venture out. How about you?

Is it really May?

So after April bringing all the showers, We are hoping that May will bring the sun and some warmth.

Market is this weekend SUNDAY 5TH MAY  and we are open 11-3pm

It’s difficult to plan what to make with all our lovely new summer weight fabrics when the weather is still so chilly. Needlecord is still a firm favourite with you dressmakers, But we do have some beautiful new fabrics in and some fabulous workshops coming up!

However if the rain carries on then “The Bucket hat” pattern  made in Merchant and Mills Dry oil skin is perfect for rainy days, maybe a jacket next or a new coat for the dog?  The pattern is also great made up in any of the cotton fabrics to keep cool in the sun if it appears?

New workshop!

Beginners Pattern Cutting – Make a Bodice Block

We are so pleased to have new tutor Justine joining us for this beginners session.

You will learn what pattern cutting is and how to make a bodice block fitted to you. To skip a lot of maths and headaches, you will be using the standard size blocks (sizes 8-24) to make a toile. Then fit these to yourself before using this to adjust the block to create one that’s a perfect fit for you. Then Justine will explain how you can use this block to create patterns that fit you beautifully going forward.
